EC rejects CDD’s request to observe elections, cites background checks

Dr. Bossman Asare Dr. Bossman Asare

Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, responded to criticism from the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) after they were denied accreditation to observe the upcoming elections.

Speaking on TV3, he explained that while the EC allows organizations to apply for observer status, approval is not automatic. He emphasized that the EC conducts a thorough review of applicants' track record and experience.

Dr. Asare noted that organizations denied accreditation can petition the commission for reconsideration, citing an instance where an international observer group was reinstated after petitioning.

He assured that the EC's decisions are based on established criteria to ensure credible election observation.
