The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed over 100 observers to monitor Ghana's December 7, 2024, general elections.
The team includes 16 long-term observers who arrived on November 20, with 90 short-term observers expected between December 2 and 3.
ECOWAS will also provide a $210,000 grant to four local organizations—NCCE, NPC, CDD-Ghana, and FOSDA—to promote a free, fair, and peaceful election.
The ECOWAS observer mission, led by former Nigerian Vice President Nnamadi Sambo, will focus on ensuring credibility and transparency in the election.
ECOWAS has expressed confidence in Ghana’s preparations, emphasizing the importance of peaceful elections.
Beneficiaries of the grant include institutions working on civic education, peace efforts, fact-checking, and youth involvement.
