Ejura residents petition Asantehene over chief’s alleged partisan conduct

Residents of Ejura, led by the NDC Communications Director, have petitioned the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, accusing the Chief of Ejura, Barima Osei Hwedie II, of political bias.

The petition claims the Chief campaigned for NPP's presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and promised to waive ground rents for residents who support him.

This, the petition argues, violates the Constitution’s prohibition on chiefs engaging in partisan politics.

They also allege the Chief misrepresented the support of Akan Chiefs and threatened eviction against those who oppose the NPP candidate.

The petitioners urge the House of Chiefs to investigate and take action to preserve the neutrality of traditional leadership.
