Former National Security Coordinator Francis Poku has urged fairness in Ghana’s upcoming elections to prevent nationwide tension.
Speaking on TV3’s Agenda on December 2, 2024, he emphasized that an unfair electoral process fuels unrest and called for all stakeholders, particularly political parties, to cooperate in ensuring credible polls.
While the Electoral Commission oversees the elections, Mr. Poku noted that security agencies play a critical role in maintaining fairness, warning that perceived bias could escalate tensions.
He highlighted international concerns about potential unrest and stressed that robust engagements, such as those facilitated by the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), have been vital in addressing issues.
Ghanaians will vote on December 7, 2024, to elect 12 presidential candidates and 276 MPs, with a close contest expected between the NPP and NDC.
