Abraham Amaliba, the Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that party flagbearer John Dramani Mahama signed the 2024 election peace pact under protest.
Although the NDC had initially opposed joining the peace agreement, Mahama ultimately signed it on November 28, 2024, to maintain Ghana’s international standing.
Amaliba explained that while Mahama’s signature was not a full endorsement, it was done reluctantly due to the party’s concerns about the government’s role in ensuring peaceful elections.
Mahama highlighted past election violence, citing incidents like the 2020 killings, and stressed that if the current government fails to fulfill its duties, the NDC would reconsider the pact.
