Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, has urged the public to refrain from removing President Akufo-Addo's statue near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region, calling such actions illegal.
The statue, unveiled on November 6 during the President’s “thank you” tour, has faced public criticism, including comments from NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, who labeled it self-congratulatory.
Some citizens have since demanded its removal, citing the NPP’s expected defeat in the 2024 elections.
However, speaking on GHOne TV, Dr. Asah-Asante emphasized that only the state has the authority to alter or remove the monument, warning that any unauthorized actions would attract legal consequences. He urged individuals to respect the law and avoid interference.
