Daryl Bosu, Deputy Director of A Rocha Ghana, has sharply criticised the government for what he believes is a deliberate failure to tackle illegal mining, known as galamsey.
He argues that the state has the tools—law enforcement, intelligence, and policy mechanisms—but has chosen not to act decisively.
Speaking on Citi FM, Bosu described the response as weak and accused the government of handling the crisis with “kid gloves,” despite its devastating impact on forests and water bodies.
He claimed the government’s inaction suggests complicity, aimed at protecting the interests of party loyalists involved in the activity.
Bosu said the situation contradicts pre-election commitments to fight galamsey, and warned that partisan priorities are being placed above environmental protection and national interest, allowing impunity to thrive.
