It’s our turn – NDC members say as they take over Protected Forest Reserves to mine illegally

Erastus Asare, a prominent anti-illegal mining advocate, has expressed his outrage over claims that some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are now engaging in illegal mining activities within protected forest reserves.

His concern lies in the fact that these individuals justify their actions by asserting that “it is their turn” to exploit the nation's mineral resources.

In a Facebook post highlighting these illegal activities, Asare criticized the government's inaction, stating that despite notifying the appropriate authorities, there has been little urgency in addressing the issue.

He raised alarms about the mining operations occurring in the Tano Nimri forest reserve, warning of the severe environmental damage and pollution of the Tano River.

Asare questioned why those with political connections are allowed to illegally exploit protected areas, leaving behind degraded lands for citizens to bear the consequences.

He also pointed to the lack of decisive action from the authorities, suggesting that the involvement of influential individuals is the primary reason behind the government's failure to act.
