My reassignment to the Office of the President cost me my seat – Ambrose Dery

Former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has attributed his defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections in the Nandom constituency to his reassignment to the Office of the President, emphasizing the reshuffle's impact on his rapport with constituents.

Despite retaining his Cabinet Minister status, Dery explained that the change significantly altered public perception of his influence.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, he stated, “The President assured me I was still in Cabinet, but the narrative at home was different.”

He revealed that constituents viewed the shift as a loss of political clout. “They gave me a name... meaning my power was finished,” he said, underscoring how local perceptions shaped the outcome.

Dery’s experience highlights the delicate interplay between national roles and grassroots expectations in Ghanaian politics.
