The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized security agencies for alleged ethnic profiling and harassment of Volta Region residents ahead of the December elections.
Speaking at a regional rally in Hohoe on November 30, NDC General Secretary Franklin Fifi Fiavi Kwetey accused immigration and police officers at Asikuma and Sogakope checkpoints of targeting Ewe-speaking travelers, demanding identification cards to cross barriers.
“Enough is enough,” Kwetey declared, urging Volta residents to resist such discrimination.
He pledged that an NDC government led by John Mahama would prioritize key projects in the region, including the Ho-Aflao and Eastern Corridor roads.
The allegations follow similar complaints from Akatsi North chiefs about harassment by immigration officers, sparking concerns over voter suppression in the NDC stronghold.
