Tensions are rising in the Weija Gbawe Municipality after National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters stormed the Electoral Commission (EC) office, demanding a redeclaration of parliamentary results.
Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, was declared winner in the Weija-Gbawe constituency with 32,608 votes, narrowly defeating NDC’s Felix Odartey Lamptey, who secured 30,460 votes. Shaib’s victory solidifies the NPP’s hold on the constituency.
Presiding Member of the Assembly, Wilfred Ayitey Blankson, acknowledged concerns over discrepancies in the results, urging the EC to address the issue to prevent further unrest.
He emphasized the importance of safeguarding lives and properties, especially given the EC office’s proximity to the Assembly, where tensions remain high despite a military and police presence.
Blankson called for immediate action to restore peace.
