Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor of the NDC has been declared the winner of the Awutu Senya East parliamentary election, securing 50,886 votes to unseat incumbent Mavis Hawa Koomson, who garnered 45,638 votes.
The Electoral Commission announced the results today, sparking celebrations among NDC supporters who hailed her victory as a new beginning for the constituency.
However, the election was overshadowed by a shooting incident at Naa Koryoo’s residence yesterday, which left one person dead and another injured.
The Peace Council condemned the violence, calling for calm and political tolerance.
