Security consultant Prof. Kwesi Aning has downplayed fears of election-related violence in the 2024 Ghanaian elections, asserting that both presidential candidates, John Mahama of the NDC and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, have shown a commitment to peace.
Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on November 30, Prof. Aning acknowledged political extremism in both parties but emphasized that the leaders' actions and rhetoric over the past 24 months have not incited violence.
In response to concerns raised by British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson, Prof. Aning expressed confidence that the 2024 elections will be peaceful, citing Mahama and Bawumia’s demonstrated leadership.
He also noted the importance of addressing public mistrust in institutions like the judiciary and the Electoral Commission to ensure electoral integrity.
