Former Attorney General Martin Amidu has raised concerns over what he describes as the politicization of Ghana’s security apparatus, particularly the Police, ahead of the December 7 elections.
In an opinion piece, he criticized the Police for selectively engaging media editors without involving the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), suggesting it might be a political interference tactic.
Amidu praised GJA President Albert Dwumfour for questioning the Police's plan to assign liaison officers to media houses, calling it a potential threat to press freedom. He also highlighted the 2023 Bugri Naabu leaked tape as evidence of political manipulation within the Police Service.
Amidu accused Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of using Ghana’s digitalization initiatives for political advantage, warning of its potential for election interference.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant to safeguard free and fair elections.
