John Dumelo, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has credited the growing political maturity of voters for his victory in the December 7 general election.
Dumelo, who ran on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, defeated incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with 47,560 votes compared to Alhassan’s 39,214.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz, Dumelo attributed his win to hard work, a policy-driven campaign, and the electorate’s shift towards substantive representation rather than material inducements.
Despite Alhassan’s tactics of distributing food, money, and engaging voters at polling stations, Dumelo noted that voters remained firm in their decision. He emphasized his focus on building strong relationships with constituents and presenting clear policies to improve their lives.
