Positions on ballot paper won’t change —EC

Jean Mensa, Chairperson for Electoral Commission of Ghana Jean Mensa, Chairperson for Electoral Commission of Ghana

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confirmed that the positions of presidential candidates on the December 7 ballot will remain unchanged, despite speculations following the death of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Madam Akua Donkor.

EC Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa made the announcement on November 12, 2024, during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, clarifying that no re-ballot will occur.

While the GFP was given a 10-day window to submit a replacement, the party's proposed candidate was disqualified due to errors in their nomination forms.

The EC will proceed with printing the ballots as planned, saving resources, and will launch public awareness campaigns to prevent voters from mistakenly voting for the deceased candidate.
