Key administrative work towards finalizing the 2024 general election results is on hold due to staff fear of attacks at the Electoral Commission (EC).
On December 11, a group of individuals, reportedly wearing National Democratic Congress (NDC) shirts, invaded the EC’s headquarters in Accra.
They drove through police barriers, entered the compound, and attempted to disrupt operations but withdrew after encountering armed security personnel.
The attack has led to widespread fear, causing many EC staff to stay home, which has delayed the final collation of disputed constituencies and halted the gazetting of election results.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though several state institutions have faced similar threats from alleged NDC supporters.
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 106 people in connection with the violence.
