Security analyst Prof. Kwesi Aning has questioned the Electoral Commission's (EC) appeal for President-elect John Dramani Mahama's intervention in re-collating parliamentary election results.
Speaking on Morning Starr, Prof. Aning emphasised that Mahama lacks the statutory authority to act, as the outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo and current state officials hold the instruments of power until January 6.
He urged the EC to adhere to established procedures, adding that recounts are not unprecedented.
"The president-elect can advise morally, but action rests with those in power," he stated, responding to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa’s call for urgent security support amid staff intimidation and threats.
