Political Scientist Prof. Ransford Gyampo and former Auditor General Yaw Domelevo have criticized the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to restrict media access during the December 7 elections.
The EC, led by Jean Mensa, announced a limit of eight media outlets at constituency collation centers and twelve at regional centers, citing security and efficiency concerns.
Prof. Gyampo described the restrictions as a threat to transparency and urged the EC to reconsider. He warned of serious consequences if the decision stands, emphasizing that democracy demands openness.
Yaw Domelevo called for a unified media boycott if access is denied, arguing it undermines public trust and the right to information.
Stakeholders widely oppose the move, calling it an attack on media freedom and electoral transparency.
