The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to reverse its decision to limit media access to collation centres during the 2024 elections.
The EC plans to accredit only eight media houses at each constituency centre, with three TV stations and five radio stations represented.
Regional centres will accommodate 12 media outlets, including TV and radio.
The MFWA argues the restrictions could undermine transparency and accountability, vital for credible elections.
However, EC Deputy Chairperson Dr. Bossman Asare defended the move, citing the need for an “enabling environment” during collation.
MFWA’s Executive Director, Sulemana Braimah, criticized the exclusion of online and print media, calling the decision misguided and urging a reversal to ensure public trust and comprehensive coverage.
