The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has condemned Ayawaso West Wuogon MP Lydia Alhassan for distributing food to security officials during the special voting on December 2, 2024.

CHRAJ Commissioner Dr. Joseph Whittal described the act as voter inducement and corruption, emphasizing that sharing food or money with voters is unethical and undermines election integrity.

Dr. Whittal also expressed concerns over the professionalism of security personnel who accepted the food, questioning their ability to maintain fairness during the elections.

He suggested that security agencies need to reorient their staff on ethical conduct.

Meanwhile, Alhassan denied the allegations, claiming she was not present at the polling station when the incident occurred.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an investigation into the matter.
