Tensions erupted at the Koforidua Police Headquarters during the Eastern Region’s special voting exercise when Tijani Mikano, New Juaben South Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed with security personnel.

Mikano resisted orders to leave the voting perimeter, demanding similar action against a New Patriotic Party (NPP) official allegedly campaigning in the restricted area.

The Electoral Commission (EC) clarified that the NPP representative had been removed for causing a disturbance, but a misunderstanding escalated into a heated standoff.

The intervention of EC officials and police resolved the dispute, and both parties vacated the premises, restoring calm.

Voting in the Western Region proceeded peacefully.

Earlier, the EC reprinted ballot papers for the two regions due to a mishap, delaying their special voting exercise initially conducted in 14 regions.
