We knew Mahama’s victory months ahead – Akomea on NPP defeat

Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of Dr. Bawumia's 2024 Campaign Team, has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) foresaw its electoral defeat months before the polls.

Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana, Akomea disclosed that internal research conducted in February 2024 showed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, leading by 10 percentage points.

Although the gap narrowed to 2 points by October, Akomea noted growing voter apathy and disgruntlement among NPP supporters.

The final results, declared by Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa on December 9, confirmed Mahama’s victory with 56.55% of the vote, defeating Dr. Bawumia, who secured 41.61%.

Akomea called for an investigation into the low voter turnout, noting that over 2 million eligible voters stayed away, a significant factor in the NPP’s defeat.
