The West African Elders Forum (WAEF) has commended Ghana for its steadfast commitment to democracy, peace, and stability, following the successful 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a statement, WAEF praised the peaceful and transparent electoral process, applauding Ghanaians for their orderly participation and dedication to democratic principles.
Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was recognized for fostering an environment conducive to free and fair elections, while Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received accolades for conceding defeat gracefully, reflecting patriotism and respect for democracy.
WAEF also lauded the Electoral Commission, security forces, and civil society for safeguarding the process's integrity but condemned violent incidents that led to loss of lives and destruction of materials.
Urging political leaders to embrace dialogue and restraint, the forum called for swift investigations to ensure accountability and uphold Ghana’s democratic reputation.
