President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has rejected former President John Mahama's comments on the national debt, calling them misleading.
Addressing stakeholders in the Kwahu Traditional Area on November 16, 2024, President Akufo-Addo reminded Ghanaians of Mahama's tenure, during which the economy grew at its slowest rate in 20 years.
He pointed out that under Mahama, the national debt surged by 1,233% from 9 billion cedis to 120 billion cedis.
In contrast, under his administration, the debt grew by 539%, from 120 billion to 767 billion cedis, with a more manageable impact in dollar terms.
Akufo-Addo emphasized that Mahama's tenure had a far worse impact on the national debt, urging Ghanaians to remember the facts.
