Mohammed Ibrahim, a farmer and leader of a group called "Kanawu," has been sentenced to four years in prison for spreading false information.
Ibrahim falsely claimed that the Ashanti Region Police, under the direction of the IGP and the Minister for the Interior, were recruiting fake officers to kill citizens during the December 2024 elections.
He also threatened violence against the officials involved. Ibrahim was convicted on three counts: publication of false news, offensive conduct, and threat of harm.
The Circuit Court in Accra sentenced him to three years for the false news and offensive conduct charges, with four years for the threat of harm, all to be served concurrently.
The case stemmed from a video he posted on social media in September 2024.
