Six remanded over Nyankpala election violence

An Accra High Court has remanded six individuals in police custody for their alleged involvement in a violent election day clash at Nyankpala in the Northern Region, which claimed one life and left two others injured.

The suspects – Alhassan Abukari, Alhaji Bashiru Mohammed, Yakubu Sumaila (alias Condem), Alhaji Alhassan Nasiru Nasam, Majeed Issah, and Kamara Fode Issiaga – are accused of conspiring to disrupt voting by opening fire on a National Democratic Congress (NDC) pavilion.

Police seized firearms, including a Taurus pistol and ammunition, during their arrest.

Justice Mary M.E. Yanzah emphasized the gravity of the charges and remanded the suspects to enable further investigations.

The case is adjourned to January 8, 2025.
