The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made history by winning the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency for the first time since its creation.
Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, unseated New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Ambassador Mike Oquaye Jnr in the December 7 elections.
This victory ends the NPP's long-standing dominance in the area, marking a significant political shift.
Ms. Akurugu’s triumph is particularly remarkable after two unsuccessful attempts against outgoing MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, who held the seat since 2012. Her persistence has paid off, earning her the opportunity to represent the constituency in Parliament starting January 2025.
The results were officially announced by the Electoral Commission on December 8.
