President Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned the post-election violence that erupted after the 2024 general elections, blaming the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the unrest.
He described the violence, which involved vandalism and hooliganism, as unnecessary and unacceptable, warning it threatened the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.
Akufo-Addo specifically pointed to NDC leaders and their supporters as key players in the disturbances.
While acknowledging the police's efforts in eventually restoring order, he criticized their delayed response, urging them to adopt faster strategies for future incidents.
The president also praised the Electoral Commission for its transparent handling of the election and called on all Ghanaians to protect the nation’s democratic values.
These comments were made at the bicentennial anniversary of the Presbyterian Church in Accra.
