Kwame Awuah Darko, a former Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery, has claimed that the Ashanti Region is no longer a stronghold for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections.
Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC FM’s Dwabrem show, Darko accused the NPP of neglecting the region that has historically supported them, saying residents are now disillusioned after eight years of limited development.
In contrast, he praised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for initiating significant development projects in the region. Darko urged Ashanti residents to support John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the upcoming elections, promising transformative progress under their leadership.
This assertion comes as Ghana braces for a closely contested December 7 election between the NPP and NDC.
