The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed approval of the Inspector General of Police's (IGP) directive prohibiting firearms at polling stations during the 2024 general elections, including those carried by security personnel.
The IGP, as the head of the elections security task force, will have the authority to authorize military intervention, but only as a last resort.
Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, affirmed the party’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies and welcomed the decision. He also noted that the NDC expects strong support from security personnel during the special voting on December 2, 2024.
