Nana Ohene Ntow, Director of Elections Planning and Coordination for the Movement for Change, has raised concerns over continued interference by executive branch officials in the operations of security personnel during elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on November 30, he emphasized that Regional Ministers, District Chief Executives (DCEs), and even Cabinet Ministers often exert undue influence on security forces on Election Day, undermining the independence of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Election Security Task Force.
Ntow called for clear, enforceable protocols to prevent such interference and ensure security personnel can operate impartially.
He noted that despite promises from authorities, the lack of concrete steps to prevent executive overreach remains a significant challenge.
He urged the EC, the National Security Council, and civil society to implement stricter measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
