Dr. Jonathan Asante Okyere, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has raised concerns over former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s endorsement of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 election campaign.
Dr. Okyere suggested that Kufuor’s support for Bawumia was more driven by partisan interests than his usual statesmanship, sparking debate across the country.
Speaking on Starr Today, Dr. Okyere expressed surprise at Kufuor’s increasing involvement in partisan activities, given his historical acceptance across different political parties.
He advised both Kufuor and President Akufo-Addo to step back, allowing the NPP to regroup and rebrand following its significant electoral loss. He cited discontent within the NPP’s Ashanti support base as a key factor in the party’s defeat.
