Mahama defends proposal to restructure Free SHS administration

John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, has called for the abolition of the Free SHS Secretariat, citing corruption and inefficiency.

Speaking on GBC, Mahama outlined his plan to transfer the program’s management to the Ghana Education Service (GES) if elected President.

This, he said, would streamline oversight and eliminate waste caused by duplicative offices created under the current administration.

Mahama emphasized the need for reforms to address lapses in the Free SHS program and added that GES, as the mandated educational authority, is better positioned to supervise it effectively.

He criticized the current system for fostering mismanagement, advocating for the integration of Senior High School coordinators under GES to enhance accountability and ensure efficient delivery of the policy.
