NDC Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has pledged to promote sustainable mining practices to combat environmental degradation caused by illegal mining.
Speaking in Akrokkeri, Fomena Constituency, during his Ashanti Region campaign tour, Mahama emphasized the importance of small-scale mining to local livelihoods and vowed to implement policies that balance economic benefits with environmental protection.
“We will support small-scale miners while ensuring the preservation of our lands for future generations,” Mahama said. He outlined plans for land reclamation and eco-friendly mining techniques to mitigate the impact of galamsey on natural resources.
Calling for competency over political loyalty, Mahama urged voters to choose leaders capable of addressing pressing national challenges. His promises resonated strongly with Fomena residents, whose economy heavily relies on mining activities.
