Deputy Communications Officer of the NPP, Ernest Owusu Bempah, has alleged that over 2.1 million party members boycotted the 2024 general elections in protest of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential candidacy.

In an interview on Oyerepa TV, Owusu Bempah claimed that the party's base was disillusioned by what he described as a poor leadership decision, leading many loyalists to stay home or vote against the party.

He recounted an encounter with a taxi driver who, despite being a card-bearing NPP member, voted for the NDC due to dissatisfaction with the chosen candidate.

Without offering empirical evidence, he insisted that widespread disapproval within the grassroots was to blame for the NPP’s poor showing.

Owusu Bempah criticized the party's leadership for ignoring internal concerns and called on the Prof Mike Oquaye Committee to publish its report on the election. He believes only through honest introspection can the NPP rebuild for the future.
