Sekondi MP Andrew Egyapa Mercer has attributed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) loss in the constituency to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) effective propaganda campaign, which resonated strongly with voters.
Speaking on Joy FM after his defeat, Mercer lamented that the NDC’s narrative undermined the NPP’s achievements by portraying 28 years of stagnation under NPP MPs.
Mercer explained that the presidency was under NDC control during much of this period, limiting the impact of NPP MPs in the constituency.
“Jerry Rawlings, Prof. Mills, and John Mahama were presidents during those years and did nothing in Sekondi,” he argued, emphasizing the voters’ inability to distinguish between the roles of MPs and presidents.
He highlighted ongoing projects, including the Effia Nkwanta Hospital redevelopment, but admitted the NDC’s messaging overshadowed these efforts.
