Former Majority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has alleged that the NPP parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East was forced to relinquish his seat at gunpoint after the elections.
Speaking at a press conference on December 11, 2024, he condemned the violence allegedly instigated by NDC supporters.
Afenyo-Markin claimed the candidate was held hostage and coerced to accept election results under life-threatening conditions. He also accused the NDC of raiding polling stations, forcing EC officials to declare their candidates winners, even when defeated.
He further highlighted violent incidents, including a fatal shooting in Awutu Senya, a deadly clash in Nyankpala, and attacks on NPP supporters.
Additionally, the EC’s office in Damongo was set ablaze, with other violent episodes reported in Tepa and Ledzokuku.
