Political analyst Prof. Smart Sarpong has reflected on the recent electoral defeat of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to John Dramani Mahama, acknowledging the unpredictability of elections.

Speaking on Angel FM, Prof. Sarpong admitted his earlier prediction of an incumbent victory, based on pre-election data, was upended by Mahama's landslide win.

He highlighted how factors like voter turnout, economic conditions, and campaign dynamics significantly influenced the outcome.

“Election results are never set in stone; only God knows the true outcome,” he stated, emphasizing the limitations of polling.

Prof. Sarpong stressed the importance of recognizing the gap between research projections and real-world events, noting, “We rely on data, but the real world often defies the numbers.”

His remarks underline the complexities of electoral forecasting.
