Special Voting is not a guarantee for D-Day calm – NDC’s Fifi Kwetey warns of election desperation

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiafvi Kwetey, has urged caution in interpreting the smooth conduct of Ghana’s special voting as a reflection of what to expect on Election Day.

Speaking on PM Express on December 2, he commended the peaceful nature of the exercise but stressed its controlled environment contrasts sharply with the often volatile dynamics of the general election.

Citing past elections, Kwetey noted that while special voting is typically calm, general elections often see heightened desperation, with incidents of violence, as in 2016, when eight people died.

He emphasized vigilance, noting the streamlined nature of special voting reduces potential chaos, but the stakes on Election Day make it unpredictable.

“It’s good so far,” he remarked, “but I wouldn’t jump to too many conclusions.”
