Supreme Court orders new judge for NPP’s mandamus case

Supreme Court of Ghana Supreme Court of Ghana

The Supreme Court has directed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) mandamus applications, initially ruled on by the High Court, be reassigned to a different judge.

This comes after the Supreme Court quashed the earlier orders of the original High Court but upheld the validity of the mandamus applications.

The dispute involves the Electoral Commission's (EC) re-collation of parliamentary election results in nine constituencies, a move challenged by the NDC as illegal.

While the EC has completed re-collation in seven NPP-won constituencies, the results for Dome/Kwabenya and Ablekuma North remain unresolved.

Justice Gabriel Pwamang emphasized the need for expedited hearings, scheduling the case for December 31, 2024, and highlighted the importance of fairness to maintain judicial integrity.
