Nana Akomea, Vice Chairman of Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 Campaign Team, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 election loss to a significant drop in voter turnout.
In the December 7 poll, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won decisively with over 6.3 million votes, while the NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 4.6 million.
The NDC also gained a parliamentary majority, unseating several NPP MPs.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Point Blank, Akomea revealed that approximately two million voters who backed the NPP in 2020 did not vote in 2024.
“We don’t find them voting for Mahama or other candidates. It is fair to assume they stayed away,” he explained.
Akomea called for an investigation into the causes of this voter apathy to rebuild the party's support.
