Using currency depreciation as yardstick to choose next president not useful – Gabby Otchere-Darko

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, political strategist and lawyer, has advised Ghanaians to evaluate the upcoming December 7 elections based on the achievements, vision, and leadership qualities of the candidates, rather than focusing solely on the cedi's depreciation.

In a post on X, Otchere-Darko highlighted that both leading candidates, John Mahama (NDC) and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP), oversaw similar currency devaluation rates during their respective tenures.

Mahama’s era saw a 71% cedi depreciation (2009-2016), while under Bawumia's vice presidency, the cedi depreciated by 72%.

He urged voters to assess broader indicators such as governance accomplishments and future plans, emphasizing Ghana's need for progress and safeguarding gains.

The December 7 election will mark Ghana's 9th consecutive polls under the Fourth Republic.
