The National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials in the Savannah Region have rejected allegations that they colluded with New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, Samuel Abu Jinapor, to recognize his victory as the MP-elect for Damongo.
In a statement signed by Regional Secretary Salisu Be-Awuribe, the NDC executives clarified that they had not represented Mr. Mutawakilu in any discussions with the Electoral Commission (EC) and had not endorsed Jinapor.
They explained that they attended the EC’s Regional Interparty Advisory Committee meeting in their official capacities but did not participate in the collation or declaration of results.
The statement also referenced the violence that disrupted the collation process.
Despite this, the EC declared Jinapor as the winner with 16,222 votes, ahead of Mutawakilu, who secured 14,425 votes.
