The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to audit ballot booklets in Ghana’s Eastern and Western Regions, following a decision to destroy compromised materials.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the party’s Director of Elections and IT, stressed the need for transparency and accountability, citing public mistrust in the Electoral Commission (EC). He noted that the volume of ballots made same-day destruction impractical.
This follows the EC’s recall and reprinting of ballot papers for these regions after a leakage was discovered on December 1, sparking concerns over electoral integrity.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Boamah reiterated the importance of vigilance, stating that the audit will ensure proper oversight and reinforce confidence in the electoral process.
