Former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has offered a candid analysis of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.
In a social media post, Antwi traced the party’s loss to internal missteps, including the controversial decision to retain Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta despite widespread dissatisfaction and calls for his removal.
Antwi revealed that the party’s failure to act on economic concerns raised by 90 Members of Parliament in late 2022 marked a turning point.
He stated, “Keeping Ken Ofori-Atta at post till February 2024 showed we weren’t listening to our voters, and we paid the price.”
The consequences included voter apathy, with nearly 6 million registered voters abstaining, signaling widespread disillusionment. Antwi described the outcome as a harsh lesson for the NPP, underscoring the need for introspection and responsiveness to public concerns.
