The Kumasi Kejetia Queen Mothers Association has strongly opposed plans to close the Kejetia Market on election day, December 7, 2024.
In a statement signed by Vice Chairman Nana Wiafe on December 3, the association rejected the directive, reportedly initiated by Kumasi Mayor Samuel Pyne following a request from NPP running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
The Queen Mothers argued that the closure would negatively impact traders, particularly in the current economic climate, and noted that December 6 is already a public holiday.
They called on the market management to prioritize traders' welfare and reconsider the decision, vowing to resist any attempts to shut down the market.
