A joint security operation against illegal mining led to the arrest of 56 galamseyers at Kadadwen in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality on March 13.
The Western Regional Security Council, supported by the military, police, and naval forces, conducted the raid across seven sites, detaining 47 men and nine women.
Additional operations in Ahanta West and Mpohor saw miners fleeing, leaving behind heavy machinery. Security forces seized three excavators, nine pumping machines, and three motorbikes while burning 25 Changfang machines.
The crackdown, led by Western Regional National Security Liaison Officer Brigadier General Musa Whajah, is part of President Mahama’s intensified fight against illegal mining and environmental destruction.
The arrested suspects are now in police custody for processing.
