Environmental advocacy group A Rocha Ghana has commended the government for transferring police commanders in mining areas, a move aimed at tackling illegal mining.
The reshuffle targets officers who have remained in these positions without making significant progress against the menace.
Daryl Bosu, Deputy National Director of Operations at A Rocha Ghana, welcomed the decision on Channel One TV, emphasizing that it will enhance accountability among police commanders and stakeholders.
However, he criticized the government’s broader response to illegal mining, describing it as inadequate.
Bosu reiterated calls for a state of emergency and more aggressive measures to curb the crisis.
While he acknowledged the government’s efforts, he urged a more persistent and forceful approach to end illegal mining once and for all.
