Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has raised concerns over the illegal invasion of his mining concession at Akropong, lamenting the destruction caused by unauthorized miners.

Despite government efforts to curb illegal mining, he noted that the issue persists, posing a threat to the environment and economy.

Speaking during a meeting with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources on February 14, the Asantehene called for a stronger response, including security deployment, small-scale mining reforms, and alternative job opportunities for illegal miners.

He stressed the urgency of addressing the crisis, stating, “We must find a way to solve this.”

The Asantehene reiterated that sustainable solutions, including job creation, are crucial to ending illegal mining.
